On the 3rd August 2014, the Callington Singers were honoured to perform in a special service to commemorate the outbreak of the First World War. The service was held at Truro Cathedral and was well attended. Contributors included the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Thomas Bolitho OBE.
The choir sang ‘No Greater Love’ by Ireland, ‘Like as the Hart’ by Howells and the Magnificat by Noble. Simon Brett accompanied the choir and ended the service with a magnificent performance of Walton’s ‘Crown Imperial’.
The Callington Singers also performed the Eucharist on the morning of the same day, during which they sang excerpts from Schubert’s Mass in G, the Kyrie from Darke’s Mass in F and the Jubilate by Andrew Downes, which was composed for the choir’s 30th Anniversary.
