Sumer is icumen in

This year the Callington Singers will be performing their Summer Concert in St. Paul’s Church at Yelverton. This is a venue which the choir has not visited before, so we are very excited about singing there. It looks as though (thanks to El Niño) this is going to be a lovely hot summer, so we want to celebrate it in style.

The programme is still being developed and rehearsed but will be built around a full performance of the Missa Brevis No.8 in C Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (K259). The mass derives its nickname Orgelmesse or Orgelsolomesse (Organ Solo Mass) from the obbligato organ solo entry of the Benedictus. The programme will also include works by Vaughan Williams, Rossini, Britten and others.

The choir is currently seeking new members. As a community choir our ethos is that everyone should have the opportunity to sing beautiful music. For this reason, we do not ask anyone to audition and the ability to read music is not considered essential. If you would like to come along and give it a try, the choir meets every Thursday at 7:15 pm in Callington Primary School main hall. If you want to know more about membership of the choir, please see the Membership section of this website.
