The Callington Singers are running a singing workshop at St. Mary’s Church in Callington, on the 6th April. We warmly welcome you all to attend, either as singers or as a member of the audience for the final concert.
In accordance with what is fast becoming a tradition with the Callington Singers, we will be providing an epic spread of free cake! These confectionary delights are provided by the choir members, who take great pride in catering for our events.
So come along and fill your boots, make friends and enjoy a wonderful day of music making. No lunch option is provided (apart from cake, obviously) but there are many places to enjoy a fabulous meal in Callington (more details are available on request).
Our Musical Director, Graham Williams is currently on sabbatical, so the day will be led by local composer Andrew Wilson. Our accompanist is the extremely talented Mark Smith. The choir will also be joined by talented local soloist, Annie Sutcliffe.
We will be singing Vivaldi’s Gloria and Schubert’s Deutsche Messe. Whilst the Gloria is a staple of many a singing workshop and always a popular favourite with choristers, the Schubert Mass is less well-known. It was composed by Franz Schubert in 1827. Its text is not the Latin liturgical text, but a sequence of poems in German by Johann Philipp Neumann who commissioned the work. It is delicate and beautiful to sing, so we hope that participants and audience will enjoy discovering this wonderful piece of music.
The workshop costs £10 per applicant and audience tickets for the concert are £5. All the music can be provided via email free of charge, or you can purchase a music pack to keep for £2.50. You are also welcome to bring your own copies of the sheet music but please note that different editions may contain discrepancies, especially the Vivaldi.
